Monitor Mode

The Account Manager offers three monitor modes, chosen in the monitor editor.

Tradovate behavior

Tradovate monitors run in Standard Mode only. Hybrid and Unrealized modes, and the position-level thresholds they carry, are NinjaTrader 8 features. A Tradovate monitor still lets you pick a P/L Basis of Total, Realized, or Unrealized, but that only changes which number the daily thresholds read. It does not turn the monitor into the always-on Unrealized Mode described below: a Tradovate monitor still stops for the day when a target is hit. See Tradovate Account Manager.

The Monitor Mode section of the monitor editor with three cards: Standard Mode and Hybrid Mode, which stop, and Unrealized Mode, which stays active.

Standard Mode

Standard Mode stops the monitor for the rest of the session when either your Daily Profit or Daily Loss target is hit. It has no position-level thresholds. The P/L it reads is set by Include Unrealized P/L? in the monitor editor: total P/L (realized plus unrealized) by default, or realized only.

Hybrid Mode

Hybrid Mode combines hard account limits with continuous position-level management. When enabled, the monitor enforces your Daily Profit and Daily Loss targets as hard stops: if either limit is hit, the monitor stops for the day, preventing overtrading.

Simultaneously, you can set Max Position Profit and Max Position Loss thresholds that operate independently: when an individual position hits its target, the monitor flattens only that position while remaining active to manage the rest of your session. This allows you to automatically cut losers early or lock in profits on runners without terminating your entire trading day, while your daily max loss still acts as an account-level fail-safe.

Unrealized Mode

Unrealized Mode continuously monitors your account's floating P/L and takes action in real-time while positions are open. Unlike Standard Mode, the monitor never stops: it runs persistently throughout the session, flattening your account or specific positions the moment your unrealized P/L thresholds are breached.
