Migrate from another trade copier
Use this procedure to rebuild and verify an existing copier workflow in CrossTrade. CrossTrade does not import another vendor's configuration. Recreate each rule explicitly and test it in simulation.
Duplicate automation can submit duplicate or conflicting orders.
1. Record the current configuration
Before changing anything, record:
- Source account
- Follower accounts
- Copy mode
- Quantity rules and maximums
- Instrument filters and replacements
- Inversion rules
- Strategy or order filters
- Stop and target behavior
- Cancel and flatten behavior
- Reconnect and resynchronization behavior
- Broker or prop-firm restrictions
Capture current positions and working orders. Begin migration only when the intended accounts are flat unless your approved operating procedure states otherwise.
2. Disable live dispatch from the old copier
Keep the old configuration available for reference, but stop its live dispatch before enabling a CrossTrade copier on the same accounts.
Verify:
- No old copier process can send a new follower action.
- No scheduled strategy or alert can reactivate it unexpectedly.
- Source and follower accounts hold the expected state.
3. Build a minimal CrossTrade copier
Create one copier with:
- One simulation source
- One simulation follower
- One-to-one sizing
- No inversion
- No instrument replacement unless required
- The copy mode that matches the workflow under test
See Trade Copier configuration and copy modes.
4. Test the order lifecycle
Test each supported action used by the real workflow:
- Entry
- Stop
- Target
- Change
- Cancel
- Flatten
- Partial fill when available
- Connection interruption and recovery
Save the source and follower order state plus relevant logs for each test.
5. Add one rule per test
Add followers, sizing ratios, filters, replacements, and inversion one at a time. Repeat the lifecycle test after each change.
If a test fails, revert the last configuration change before investigating.
6. Prepare the cutover
Before enabling live dispatch:
- Confirm the old copier is disabled.
- Confirm the CrossTrade account map.
- Confirm quantity and maximum settings.
- Confirm every account is permitted under current broker or prop-firm rules.
- Confirm NinjaTrader 8 and the CrossTrade add-on are connected.
- Confirm a rollback owner and procedure.
7. Monitor the first live lifecycle
Use the smallest quantity permitted by the account and workflow. Monitor the source and every follower through entry and exit.
Stop new automation if:
- A follower rejects or misses an action.
- Source and follower positions disagree.
- A protective order is missing.
- A connection recovers into an unknown state.
Use Trade Copier troubleshooting, connection resilience, and the incident explainer before resuming.
Rollback
A rollback means:
- Stop new CrossTrade copier dispatch.
- Reconcile all source and follower positions and working orders.
- Confirm accounts are in the intended state.
- Restore the prior copier only after CrossTrade dispatch is disabled.
- Repeat the account map and quantity checks before resuming.
Never switch copier processes while working orders or unknown positions remain unresolved.
